The Green Dragon Tavern, Boston's first tavern, opened in 1657 and was a "hotbed" meeting place for Boston Revolutionaries. Daniel Webster quoted it as "headquarters of the American Revolution."

The Sons of Liberty held meetings and discussed plans for resistance of the acts of the British Crown and Parliament, which brought them closer toward independence. The British plans to capture Samuel Adams and John Hancock (and seize the powder at Concord) were discovered at The Green Dragon.

Sam Ballard, a 13 year old, overheard two British officers discussing plans, and then alerted the Tavern's landlord. The landlord informed the Committee of Safety. The Mechanics ratified the Constitution at the tavern. The Green Dragon continues to serve tourists and Bostonians, and attracts celebrities from all walks of life. Located on the Freedom Trail, the tavern is registered as an official historical landmark.
