Margie's is sweet on fun just like it was when it opened in May 1921.
This is truly a family business and is one of the few places in Chicago
that still claims the charm of the "good old days."
The homemade candies and chocolates continue to be very popular, as well
as the superb selection of banana splits, sundaes, shakes and other
fountain creations.
The Poulos family continues to be very proud of the
fact that they still make their own ice cream. A surprise to some is
that Margie's has a regular restaurant menu, and there is always a
danger of eating too much and not having room for dessert.
The media does special interest stories from time to time and its
location (near the gentrifying Bucktown neighborhood) continues
attracting new customers. Peter Poulos is the third generation in
charge of this great little candy store that happens to sell ice cream
and provide a good value sandwich menu too. He says he always follows
his mother's motto: "Highest quality, best possible service, and be
proud of your product." And they are!
Margie's is truly a family store that exhibits family values all the
time. "We want a place where kids can come in a ice cream treat and
take home some old time treat like rock candy and candy cigarettes. All
the kids from 2 to 92 always enjoy the time they spend here.
We have
families come in all the time and reminisce about days gone by while
they enjoy their special treat" says Peter.
Make Margie's a stop soon - come in and have a seat in a booth with the
music box and listen to some tunes while you enjoy one of the few
places like this around while you still can!.
