Located
in nearby Bridgeport, Trattoria 31 is a good neighborhood spot for
great dining and with-in walking distance to U.S. Cellular Field.
As you enter you will find black and white photos of the city's
early Italian neighborhoods decorating the walls. The seating is
warm and inviting. It works well as a business or casual dining
spot with friends, but also makes a great place for an intimate
dinner for two. Frank, Dean and others sing not loud in the background.
The
owner and chef behind Trattoria 31 is Francisco "Pace"
Ruiz, a restaurant industry veteran whose menu offers classic Italian
cooking. Heavy sauces are downplayed in favor of lighter reductions;
liberal uses of citrus, cheeses, and oils add new dimensions to
traditional dishes; and coma-inducing "no one likes a skinny
Santa"
portions are replaced by more sensible, health-conscious servings.
The
menu starts with mussels sauteed in a garlicky broth of tomatoes,
white wine, and spicy sausage. Next are the pastas nicely dressed
but not swimming in gravy. The tender gnocchetti in cheese sauce
is worth sampling too, and the creamy papardelle tossed with snow
peas and porcini and crimini mushrooms has a pronounced smoky flavor
thanks to the apple wood bacon. For secondi, chicken alia Romana
is juicy, subtly seasoned with rosemary, and filling. The crunchy,
lemony, fresh-filled cannoli is a standout, just short of street-vended
Sicilian perfection.
Trattoria
31 has full bar service and a nice wine list to choose from and
our Martinis are superb! We are sure you will easily return to Trattoria
31 when you are in Chicago! Trattoria 31 is quickly becoming a staple
to Bridgeport dining, catering to White Sox fans looking for a quick
bite before heading to the park, locals looking for a great place
to dine, and visitors to Chicago who won't have to travel north
for good bistro dining.
