Executive Chef & co-owner, Ji-no Kim, learned the art of making sushi as a youngster from his grand parents who owned a Japanese restaurant in Korea. While studying at the University of Pittsburgh, he worked as sushi chef at Shogun, a traditional Japanese restaurant, and 4 years later, opened his first restaurant, Sapporo, located in Crystal Lake. With Sapporo, Ji-no Kim created a thriving business based on traditional Japanese cooking, but for Tsunami, Ji-no Kim and partner Steven Song wanted to appeal to a broader market. They created an innovative sushi menu and a contemporary main dining room menu unmatched in the city of Chicago.
