A restaurant (of sorts) at 435 E. Illinois in North Pier, Dick's has the kind of food that is not particularly fashionable and definitely not spa cuisine--buckets of messy ribs, shrimp, chicken, catfish and crab legs--served on butcher paper.

There are also 74 kinds of beer for the novice or serious sudsman. Dick's has live Dixieland Jazz seven nights a week, no cover, no dress code and certainly no taste. Dick's Last Resort is billed as "The Shame of Chicago" and although the food is certainly good and there's plenty of it, places with great food are a dime a dozen. It's the restaurant's style (or lack of it), wisecracking service people, jocular doormen, and insulting promotional attitudes--that raise eyebrows. Great patio on the water.
