Done in pale and deep shades of yellow, the more-or-less L shaped dining room is decorated with photos of India's people, architecture, and food. Elaborate wood carvings adorn a few alcoves. Shimmering sari fabric lines the windows. The ceilings sport a series of backlit red, orange, yellow, and purple panels, some in neat rectangles, others in sensual swirls, while hypnotic music plays in the background.

Don't miss the soups such as a mild brown broth with rice and noodles and a spicier, ultrasmooth puree of lentils and tomatoes. Tandoori chicken bedded on onions is brought by servers to the table on a sizzling platte, along with a basket of nan (white-flour-baked bread in the tandoor). Vegetarian dishes also fare well, among them basmati rice, delicious creamed black lentils, whole button mushrooms in a tangy sauce, vegetable japfrazie, and navrattan korma.
